International Garden Photographer of the Year 2011

I am very happy as I have just had my portfolio submission put through as a finalist for International Garden Photographer of the Year. The work will be on show at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, on May 14th 2011. There will be follow on exhibitions through to 2012 at Wakehurst Place, Lacock Abbey, Ironbridge, Shropshire and Exeter.

The work titled  “The hands that pick the food that I eat” was shot as a personal project after completing a similar commission for a chain of garden centres.

Really liking these shots Jason, simple and brilliant for it. I love hands, they make great subjects for photos. I regularly shoot various people’s hand as part of my own personal project and think people should spend more time focusing on the hands of those around them. They can tell us so much about a person.

Hi Charlie, this was my intention entirely. I wanted the images to say something about the person whithout actually showing them. Shooting this project in Black & White also helps to convey the message without being distracted too much by the vibrant colours of the produce.
