This was a shoot I covered for Homes & Antiques at Tilley Printers in Ledbury, a ‘jobbing letterpress Printers’ still housed in it’s original premises since 1875. Martin Clark is the Master Printer who is the present proprietor who began his 5 year apprenticeship at the age of 15. It was remarkable to see all the original machines in action and the quality of print was absolutely beautiful.
This is the most romantic of gardens with a fantastic plantsman’s nursery attached to it. The home of Louisa and James Arbuthnott near Kidderminster which has been created since they bought the Gardener’s Cottage and walled garden in 1974. This appeared in the July 2012 issue of Gardens Illustrated and was also the cover.
I was lucky enough to cover a shoot at Scampston Walled Garden a couple of years ago for Country Living Magazine. This wonderful garden is set within the walls of the original kitchen garden for Scampston Hall. The garden was derelict for nearly fifty years when Sir Charles and Lady Legard started a huge restoration project with the help of garden designer, Piet Oudolf. This garden looks stunning during late summer and well worth the visit to North Yorkshire.
For the past couple of years I have been commissioned by The National Trust to photograph the Winners of the Fine Farm Produce awards with another great photographer William Shaw. The work is split between the two of us and we cover the entirety of England and Wales, it’s quite a shoot ! Meeting these fantastic producers and tasting their food makes up for the fact I spend most of the week rolling around in cow muck, herding sheep with a tripod leg and having my ankles bitten by pesky pigs. I even managed to unwittingly steal a farm dog, it wasn’t until I was half way down a lane that I heard an unusual sound coming from the back of my car, it somehow managed to get in whilst I was packing !
Here are some of the winners I photographed this year
